Survival Research Labs:   Shows:   JG Ballard CONVERSATIONS Book Release Party |

Join RE/Search Publications and Survival Research Laboratories (SRL) for a book release party celebrating RE/Search's latest title J.G. BALLARD CONVERSATIONS
PARTY: SAT Sept 10, 2005, 7-10pm
"ART ON THE WALLS" EXHIBIT HOURS:
J.G. BALLARD CONVERSATIONS contains never before published interviews dating back to 1984. The book includes a conversation during J.G. Ballard's rare visit to the Bay Area, and publishes some of the latest words from the man himself. The varied and often timely conversations individually take place between J.G. Ballard and Mark Pauline (founder, Survival Research Laboratories), Graeme Revell (founder of band SPK and composer of some 100 film soundtracks), U.K.-based writer David Pringle, local writer Maura Devereux, U.K. teacher Lynne Fox, and RE/Search founder V. Vale. The book also features photographic art by Ana Barrado, Charles Gatewood, SM Gray, and Tim Chapman, a U.K. J.G. Ballard fan.
Priced at $19.99, J.G. BALLARD CONVERSATIONS is in 5.25"x7" format, contains 360 pages and approximately 50 photographs; printed on super-high-quality glossy paper. Pre-orders are being handled through http://www.researchpubs.com.
The celebration will take place at the Hayes Valley Market and will conclude with a "Dynamic Art Installation" organized by Mark Pauline, founder of Survival Research Laboratories (SRL). Other party entertainment includes a panel moderated by V. Vale with Mark Pauline and composer Graeme Revell, who rarely appears in the Bay Area, with a Q&A to follow. DJ Mike Ryan will provide Ballardian music (yes, Ballard has inspired a number of recordings) throughout the evening.
Art on the Walls displays include silver gelatin photographs by Ana Barrado and Charles Gatewood, and digital prints of other art and vintage photographs which were included in J.G. BALLARD CONVERSATIONS; slide projections by Charles Gatewood; huge color blow-ups from Survival Research Laboratories' recent Los Angeles Show, April 2, 2005; and other surprises. Also present will be S.F. writer Maya Devereux, whose interview with J.G. Ballard appears in
the new book.
For sale will be vintage prints by Ana Barrado, visiting from Florida; the RE/Search backlist (at discounted prices); and rare, hard-to-find SRL videos, T-shirts and calendars. Of course, the new book J.G. BALLARD CONVERSATIONS (and its companion volume, J.G. BALLARD QUOTES) will be available for autographing by Mark Pauline, V. Vale, the photographers, et al.
The Hayes Valley Market curators are recent San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) graduates, Albert Herter and Lisa Rybovich Cralle.
